Citroen sure running first will be best

Citroen team principal Yves Matton has explained Citroen's decision to run first on the road on Rally of Portugal, stating that the fear of his drivers dropping time in the dust outweighed the potential for the road cleaning. Mikko Hirvonen will open the road tomorrow evening, with World Rally Championship leader Sebastien Loeb directly behind him in the sister DS3 WRC.

Ford, Citroen split on running order

Ford and Citroen have taken totally opposing decisions regarding the running order for tomorrow night's opening loop of Rally of Portugal stages, with the factory Fiestas at the back of the pack and the DS3s at the front. Jari-Matti Latvala was first to select his position on the road, courtesy of his fastest time on the qualifying stage this morning. The Finn confirmed Ford's strategy by picking 17th on the road

Red Bull believes that getting a better understanding of Pirelli's tyres will be just as important to its title hopes as improving its car. On the back of Ferrari and Sauber delivering a shock result in the Malaysian Grand Prix, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says that his squad needs to be able to extract more from the 2012 tyres if it is to deliver the consistent results that will ensure the championship.

Alonso: Sepang win changes nothing

Fernando Alonso said his shock Malaysian Grand Prix victory "changes nothing" and that Ferrari still faces a huge amount of work to be fully competitive in normal circumstances. Alonso came through from eighth on the grid to beat Sauber's Sergio Perez to victory in the rain-affected Sepang race. While delighted with the result, Alonso underlined that it did not mean Ferrari had conquered its problems.
