Official: Skoda unveils Volkswagen Up!-based Citigo

This is the all-new Skoda Citigo, and if you're thinking that it looks rather familiar, that's because its Volkswagen-badged kin recently debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. That's right, the long-rumored Skoda version of Volkswagen's new Up! city car has finally arrived.

Buyers will have a choice of two 1.0-liter three-cylinder engines - one with 59 horsepower, the other with a 74 hp and a blistering 106 mph top speed - both mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Powerful they are not, but these three-bangers should prove to be extremely efficient, with Skoda quoting fuel economy numbers of 62.8 and 60.1 miles per gallon, respectively (on the European cycle).

Being a Skoda, the Citigo will go on sale in its home market of the Czech Republic this fall, with the rest of Europe getting the car next summer. Follow the jump for Skoda's official release.

Webber keeps Red Bull on top in FP3

Mark Webber kept Red Bull on top of the times in final practice for the Singapore Grand Prix, as team-mate Sebastian Vettel had to settle for third place after finding traffic. Webber's time of 1:46.081s put him just 0.027 seconds ahead of McLaren's Jenson Button, who bounced back following a difficult Friday. Vettel, favourite for another pole position, had a low-key session and finished in third, over two tenths of a second behind Webber

Magnussen wins spectacular race

Kevin Magnussen claimed his sixth victory of the season from a hectic final British Formula 3 race at Donington Park this afternoon. Rain arrived just before the start and caused the first six drivers on the grid to make a last-minute switch to wet tyres. The rain intensified on the formation lap, so only 10 cars took up their grid slots as most of the field dived into the pits for a tyre change.

MV Agusta Brutale R 1090 is cheaper speed

MV Agusta Brutale R 1090

If you're looking for all of the excitement that the 1100cc engine in the MV Agusta Brutale 1090RR has to offer with a slightly more palatable price tag, we have some good news for you. MV Agusta has just whipped the sheets off of the company's new Brutale R 1090. Buyers can expect to find the same beating heart between the frame, though with lower-specification wheels, brakes and various other pieces along for the ride compared to the mighty double R.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. The lower-rung kit means that the Brutale R 1090 will hit the showroom with a price tag of €13,990, or $18,980 at current conversion rates. Expect the actual U.S. MSRP to be far below that figure.

Even so, that price nets you a 144-horsepower, radially-valved engine that's sure to scare the hair off your hide. Fortunately, the manufacturer has thrown in an eight-way adjustable traction control system to keep you off of the pavement and on two wheels. Or one wheel, depending on your throttle position. Expect to see the machine show its face to the public for the first time at the EICMA show later this year.

Sebastien Buemi - 14th: "In the end, I am happy with my performance as I feel I managed good laps in both Q1 and Q2. It's true we always lack a bit of pace in qualifying, but we have seen recently that does not rule out our chances of having a good race. So I hope that will be the case tomorrow, also taking into account we managed to save a set of new Supersoft tyres.

Red Bull wants to be stronger in 2012

Red Bull Racing may be on the verge of more title success in Singapore this weekend, but team principal Christian Horner has warned its rivals that he thinks the outfit can do even better next year. With Sebastian Vettel able to secure his second world championship on the streets of Marina Bay, Horner believes that his whole outfit has proved itself to be strong in all areas this year - which means it can target further success in 2012. "The thing that has been extremely pleasing so far this year is we have delivered in all areas," Horner told AUTOSPORT.

Mercedes, Virgin also get curfew back

Mercedes GP and Virgin Racing have also won back one of their four allowed curfew exemptions, after the FIA decided that the staff who entered the track early on Saturday were not involved directly with the car. Marketing staff from the two teams, plus Red Bull Racing, were found to have entered the track before the 4pm cut-off point - which is a breach of the new-for-2011 curfew restrictions.

Renault abandons Singapore upgrade

Renault has decided to abandon its latest upgrade for the remainder of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend after suffering overheating problems in first practice. Vitaly Petrov was scheduled to try out the revised tighter bodywork and sidepods during the opening day of action in Singapore, but a radiator problem experienced early on forced a change of plan. Report: Stock car racing comes to.... Antarctica?!

ACTC Stock Car Racing in Antarctica

Argentina has apparently brought stock car racing to Antarctica for the very first time. The Asociacion Corredores Turismo Carretera recently teamed up with the Argentina Air Force and the interior ministry to bring one racer to the frozen continent. Hugo Mazzacane, vice president of the racing organization, piloted the car down 3,937 feet of runway in temperatures of four degrees below zero, Fahrenheit. We aren't exactly sure of the motivations behind the stunt, but our Google Translator informs us that the trip had something to do with bringing renewed passports to those already stationed on Antarctica.

Then again, if you have to ask why, you probably shouldn't be anywhere near motorsports in the first place. There's no indication as to what kind of preparations were taken to ensure that the car could perform in the cold or what kind of driving suit Mazzacane had to don in order to keep from freezing himself out of the cockpit. Still, looks like a fun time to us.

Lorenzo says Honda risks paying off

Jorge Lorenzo believes the reason Honda is defeating Yamaha in this year's MotoGP title race is because HRC took more risks with its 2011 design. The reigning champion thinks there were signs in late 2010 that Honda was poised for a breakthrough year, and suggested that its success drought since Nicky Hayden's 2006 title had led to HRC taking a more aggressive approach than 2008-2010 champion squad Yamaha. Red Bull denies breaking the RRA

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has rubbished fresh suggestions that his team breached the Resource Restriction Agreement last year, ahead of moves aimed at easing tensions between outfits about the scope of Formula 1's budget cap. A recent audit of the activities of a selection of teams by Dutch consultancy firm Capgemini prompted media reports that discrepancies had been found at Red Bull Racing - on the back of the outfit asking for clarification about certain elements of the investigation

De Puniet still confident for race

Randy de Puniet is still confident he can deliver his best result of the year so far in the Aragon Grand Prix even though qualifying did not live up to the expectations practice had raised. Sixth on Friday morning, third in Saturday's practice session and a long spell in the top five in qualifying had suggested that de Puniet and Pramac Ducati might deliver a giant-killing result at Aragon. But as other riders found time on the soft tyre at the end of qualifying, de Puniet tumbled to 10th.

Previously contained only through still photography, the Lexus LS TMG Edition has now been captured by a video camera: The 641-horsepower sport sedan was seen in its native habitat, which is stalking the twists and turns of Germany's Nürburgring.

We are still waiting to learn more about this oddly enticing product born from the Cologne garage of Toyota Motorsport GmbH. So far, all we've got to go on is the leaked spec sheet. That slip of conveniently laid-out paper has us eager to get quite a bit closer to the LS TMG.

Click past the jump to watch it run through a few turns at the 'Ring.

Dixon beats Power to Motegi pole

Scott Dixon denied Will Power pole position for the IndyCar Series' Motegi round, but Power will still start seven places ahead of title rival Dario Franchitti, who could only manage ninth. The result is only the second time all year that Penske driver Power has been beaten to pole on a road course, with Dixon (Ganassi) having already been the man who ended his pole streak at Lexington last month. Power hung back early in the Fast Six session, letting his rivals fight for provisional pole

Spy Shots: Mystery super Lexus LS spotting lapping Nrburgring

spy shot lexus ls f

We spy, with the lens of our spy guy, a rather unique Lexus LS that's taken to the track. Spotted lapping Germany's Nürburgring, this particular LS is wearing puffed-out fenders, a strongly styled decklid spoiler, what appears to be a faux nose hiding new bodywork, deep side skirts and a pair of vents on the hood. Something sporty is afoot, and we're itching to know more.

Toyota is clearly testing a super sporty version of its flagship luxury sedan. What's not clear, however, is what exactly is going on underneath the bodywork. We do know that this is work of the automaker, and not an aftermarket tuner testing some new performance parts out. The license tags on the car are from Cologne, and the car was spotted at the automaker's garage nearby.

Could we be staring at a Lexus LS F in disguise? The automaker has hinted in the past at such a car coming to market over the years, and this luxury sedan is certainly wearing some athletic upgrades. Funny, we thought for sure that a variant of the new GS was going to be next in line to get the F Sport treatment. Could this just be a one-off piece for the Tokyo Motor Show or Tokyo Auto Salon, or is it indicative of something more?

Final amusing note: The wheelman at the helm of this mystery "LS F' must be new to the 'Ring - that giant "L" on the rear window indicates he's a Learner.

Castroneves gets post-race penalty

Helio Castroneves has lost his seventh place at Motegi for passing JR Hildebrand under yellow on the final lap of the race. The Brazilian drops to 22nd as a result, but more significantly the penalty elevates Dario Franchitti to eighth - which brings the champion's deficit to new series leader Will Power down to 11 points with two races to go. Franchitti lost the IndyCar championship lead to Power today when the Australian finished second behind Scott Dixon, while Franchitti was delayed when he triggered a multi-car collision at a mid-race restart.
